NASA illustration (based on Hubble Space Telescope observations) of the planet orbiting the star HD 189733 with the catchy name of HD 189733b. The planet is a gas giant (a "hot Jupiter") whose winds blow at a refreshing rate of 4,500 MPH and at 2,000 degrees F and whose rain is glass – silicon was detected in the atmosphere so when it condenses, it probably condenses as glass. What you’re seeing is probably a really big, hot, fast, blue Christmas ornament.
